Strawberry Shortcake

3 cups flour
1/4 cup sugar
4 tsp baking powder
3/4 tsp cream of tarter
1 cup butter
2/3 heavy whipping cream
1 egg, beaten
3 cups strawberries, sliced
3 Tbsp sugar

Preheat oven to 35o.

Mix flour, 1/4 cup sugar, baking powder, and cream of tarter.

Cut in butter with pastry blender.

Stir in cream and egg.

Turn out onto lightly floured surface and knead for 2 minutes.

press into 1/2-inch thick sheet; cut into squares.

Place on baking sheet. Bake 20 minutes, until golden brown.

Sprinkle 3 Tbsp sugar over sliced strawberries.

Let shortcakes cool before splitting and filling with sugared berries. Top with whipped topping, if desired.
